What a first year actually costs

Tuition is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the whole first year, including the costs that usually surface late.

TuitionPer year, as published by the university$289
Living costsAccommodation, food, transport — a working estimate$16,300
Student visaGovernment fee, one-off$250
Health insurancePublic health cover is usually included once you are enrolled; some short-term cover may still be needed. See the note below.Typically covered
First year, all in$16,839

About this figure: The fee shown (about €255 a year) is the national master's rate that applied for 2026 entry, when non-EU students were exempt from the extra fees. A May 2026 decree made the non-EU default about €3,950 a year unless an exemption is granted, and the programme warns that 2027 may change. Treat the figure shown as a minimum and confirm with the university before you apply.

Not in the table above: The CVEC student-life contribution of about EUR 105 is compulsory every year and is almost never mentioned alongside tuition — budget it. The $250 visa figure covers the consular fee (reduced student rate) + validation tax + the Campus France processing fee (varies by country of application) + visa-centre service charge; realistic range $200–300+. Proof of funds ~€877.50/month (from 1 Aug 2026). Health insurance is shown as covered because registration with the French Securite Sociale is FREE for enrolled students and covers about 70% of standard medical costs — but 3-month travel medical insurance is MANDATORY at visa stage, Sécu takes ~2 months to activate (cover the gap), and a mutuelle top-up (~€10–47/mo) is near-universal in practice.

Paris-Saclay University publishes this fee as EUR 255 a year. The dollar figures above are converted, so treat them as approximate and quote the published amount when you apply.

After you graduate

Graduates of this program are eligible for 12-mo APS, up to 24 mo for master's in France. Work rights are set by government policy rather than the university, and they change — check the current rules before you rely on them.

What the headline leaves outThe APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Sejour) is one of the most generous windows available: full-time work in any sector, NO salary threshold and NO employer sponsorship needed during the permit itself. Master's and RNCP Level 7 graduates can reach 24 months; bachelor-level RNCP 6 graduates get 12. Two conditions matter. You must apply BEFORE your student residence permit expires — there is no grace period afterwards. And the APS is a bridge, not a destination: to stay beyond it you must convert to a carte de sejour salarie or passeport talent, and the salaried route has historically required earning around 1.5x the French minimum wage. The absence of a salary floor applies to the APS, not to what comes after it.
