What a first year actually costs
Tuition is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the whole first year, including the costs that usually surface late.
| TuitionPer year, as published by the university | $18,720 |
|---|---|
| Living costsAccommodation, food, transport — a working estimate | $14,400 |
| Student visaGovernment fee, one-off | $156 |
| Health insurancePublic health cover is usually included once you are enrolled; some short-term cover may still be needed. See the note below. | Typically covered |
| First year, all in | $33,276 |
Not in the table above: Proof of funds of about SEK 10,656 per month (2026) for the full study period — roughly SEK 107,000 for a ten-month year — must be shown before the permit is granted. Health insurance is shown as covered because students staying MORE than 12 months get a personnummer and access to Swedish public healthcare, so most two-year master's students pay nothing. Programmes shorter than 12 months DO require comprehensive private cover for the whole stay (about SEK 300-500/month). Check the programme length before relying on this. Adult dental care has a SEK 3,000+ deductible with no cap. Keep the university's free FAS insurance certificate on file even for 12+ month stays.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology publishes this fee as SEK 180,000 a year. The dollar figures above are converted, so treat them as approximate and quote the published amount when you apply.

After you graduate
Graduates of this program are eligible for 12-mo permit to seek employment in Sweden. Work rights are set by government policy rather than the university, and they change — check the current rules before you rely on them.
Rules in fluxSome secondary sources describe the graduate job-seeking permit as 9 months and non-renewable. Migrationsverket's own page states up to one year after bachelor's or master's level studies — that is the figure used here. Verify at application time.
What the headline leaves outMigrationsverket grants up to 12 months after a bachelor's or master's (12-18 for doctoral). You must apply BEFORE your student permit expires and must have completed at least two semesters of study in Sweden. The real gate is converting it: a Swedish work permit requires a confirmed job offer paying at least SEK 28,480/month gross (threshold raised January 2026), on terms matching the relevant collective agreement, and your employer must take out health, life, industrial-injury and occupational-pension insurance for you before you start. That salary floor rules out a lot of graduate-level entry roles.
