What a first year actually costs
Tuition is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the whole first year, including the costs that usually surface late.
| TuitionPer year, as published by the university | $23,308 |
|---|---|
| Living costsAccommodation, food, transport — a working estimate | $16,100 |
| Student visaGovernment fee, one-off | $288 |
| Health insuranceTypically mandatory for international students | $790 |
| First year, all in | $40,486 |
Not in the table above: The zoekjaar permit costs a further EUR 254 after you graduate, separate from the student permit fee. For the student permit the IND requires proof of roughly EUR 1,130.77 per month of living costs — about EUR 13,570 for a 12-month course — held before you arrive, plus the first year's tuition. Non-EU study-only students cannot use Dutch public health insurance and must buy IND-accepted private student cover (about EUR 58/month).
Delft University of Technology publishes this fee as EUR 20,563 a year. The dollar figures above are converted, so treat them as approximate and quote the published amount when you apply.

After you graduate
Graduates of this program are eligible for 12-mo orientation year (zoekjaar) in Netherlands. Work rights are set by government policy rather than the university, and they change — check the current rules before you rely on them.
What the headline leaves outThe zoekjaar itself is easy — 12 months, full work rights, no employer sponsorship, no job offer needed, apply within 3 years of graduating. The gate is what comes AFTER. It is non-renewable, so within that year you must switch to another permit, and for most graduates that means the highly skilled migrant (kennismigrant) route. That requires BOTH an employer who is an IND-recognised sponsor (many smaller Dutch employers are not) AND a gross salary of at least EUR 3,122/month under the reduced recent-graduate criterion (2026). Miss either and you must leave. During study you may work only 16 hours per week.
